Q. Can you let me know a useful review that can tell me more about you and the region?
A. I have been meaning to post some info on this area since I left over 2 weeks ago- am finally getting round to it! I hope it may help people who are thinking of visiting the area as when I was trying to find out about it I found it hard to get information......

This area sees few tourists because people don't know about it, not because it's not worth visiting! It's not in the current LP for Colombia but is briefly mentioned in my Michelin guidebook. I went because I was recommended to visit by a Colombian family I met. I am glad I went as I really enjoyed my time in the area. The area will start to see more tourists (I saw 4 in the whole time I was there!) and should be appearing in the next edition of the Lonely Planet, as will the accomdation that I stayed in.

I stayed in Sogamoso which was a good base to visit places in the area. It's an hour or so from Tunja.

I stayed at the Finca San Pedro which is a family-run place just outside the town. The family (Gilma and sons Juan and Felipe) are very friendly and helpful and I felt very welcome from the minute I arrived. The dorm rate is 25,000 including a lovely breakfast. Cooking dinners, etc is also possible. Juan also teaches yoga if you are into yoga or want to try it. It is a beautiful, peaceful place to stay- I loved staying here and would highly recommend it.

Some of the things to see in the area:
-Museum and Tempel del Sol in Sogamoso (entry 4,000)

-Lago de Tota- Colombia's highest and largest lake. Take a jumper as it can be cold if the sun's not out at 3,000m. I got a bus (5,000) from outside the finca to the lake-side town of Aquitania. Buses leave there on the hour to go to playa blanca (3,000)- a beautiful white beach. There is a restaurant here, which serves trout cooked in many different ways plus some meat . Prices start at about 16,000. The bus to continue round the lake and return to Sogamoso (7,000) leaves from the road above playa blanca at about half past the hour but make sure you get up there early (say quarter past) as I thought I was in plenty of time but must have just missed the bus- they only go once an hour!

Visit pueblos in the area- easy to reach by bus so can visit 2 or 3 in a day- pretty little towns to have a wander around:
Mongui- can't remember price
Nobsa - 1,700-
Tibasosa- 1,300
Iza- 2,4000

-Laguna Negra, near Mongua. We paid someone with a jeep to take us up there from the town of Mongua, but think you can also walk there- ask at the finca for info.

-Paipa Hot Springs- approx 35 mins from Sogamoso- inbetween there and Tunja. The bus costs 4,000 and once in Paipa a mini bus to 'las piscinas' costs 1,000 or a taxi is 3,4000. At the hot springs you have 2 options 1) a water park and 2) a kind of spa circuit

The water park costs 12,000 and has swimming pools of the spring waters and warer slides and other activities.

I choose option 2 as the more relaxing of the two and I thought it was well worth the 36,000 that it cost.
It's a 6 part circuit, including hydromassage pool, water masssage 'beds', jacuzzi, sauna, mud therapy (you get a dish of mud to put on like a mud mask) and then shower (the type where the water comes from above and the sides). Each bit lasts 20 mins and your skin feels lovely and soft afterwards and the whole thing is very relaxing.

Q. What is tipe of Yoga that is toucht at Finca San Pedro?
A. We we teach Agama yoga. More info about this school you can find it at www.agamayoga.com
